Curb-Beaten Table Becomes a Thing of Beauty

I found this beat-up table sitting by the road one day while hubby and I went to go pay the rent. I made him stop and help me load it up on the back of the truck. (I sometimes wonder if he regrets buying that truck!)

The List:

Paint: Waverly chalk paint in Plaster Top coat: Polycrylic in Matte Clear Wax Dark Wax

MinWax Jacobean stain Flower and script transfer from Iron Orchid Design Baskets from Hobby Lobby

Glass knobs from Amazon

Y'all. This poor pitiful mess was about to go into either the landfill or a burn pile. I knew it had good bones and could potentially be beautiful in my hands. I gave it a good scrub (it looks to have been sitting outside for A WHILE.) It was dusty, dirty and moldy. I even got a big splinter in my hand while washing this thing down (it was worth it).

I sanded down the top. It had the most beautiful woodgrain and it was covered up by a crusty old stain I applied my most favorite stain color (Jacobean) on top and was amazed how much it made the top look! (Forgive the terrible picture.)

I did not sand down the body of the table. I felt like the chalk paint would take care of the ugliness that was the original stain....I was not disappointed. I painted the inside of where the bottom drawer used to be because I had an idea of removing the drawer and brace. Hubby cut and fit a piece of bead board for the bottom and plywood for the back.

After the paint dried, I added the Iron Orchid Transfers. Those transfers took this piece to a new level! I could've stopped there, but I didn't. I added clear wax to the body of the table and some dark wax to highlight spots to make them look antique. I added the knobs after everything dried.

I bought the two baskets from Hobby Lobby (50% off at the time). I think I should have bought a third basket and turned them all where the handles faced out...but I digress.

Here is the table that was headed for a sad death...brought back to life and out of a landfill. This piece turned out incredible.
