Breadbox Makeover

Let me start out by saying that I am an unreformed junk junkie. I get it from my grandmother who was the QUEEN of yard sales and thrift stores. She had a fantastic eye for things and would bargain her way out of stores and yard sales with a trunk full of stuff every Saturday. I feel that if she were alive today, she would be in hog heaven with all of the stencils, chalk paint, stamps and transfers out on the market today. She would totally be in love with my Cricut, as well.
For the last couple of years, I have wanted an old breadbox to transform into something farmhouse-like (I love the style and dream of my own farmhouse and barn to house all of my animals.) I found one for less than ten bucks at Value Village. It was plain and ugly, but I knew what I wanted to do with it.
My husband bought me a Cricuit after I begged...erm....hinted at one for a while. This project was the first thing I used it on and I consider it a learning experiment. It is not a professional looking piece at all, but I still love and use it every day (we have a cat who is a bread bandit and will chew up the bag to get to it.)

Was she pitiful or what? Ho-hum and DIRTAAYY, let me tell you! I am not one to back away from a challenge. I cleaned the breadbox with my trusty bottle of TSP and a cleaning rag. After it dried and I lightly sanded it, I applied three coats of Waverly Chalk Paint in Plaster. I sat around online looking for a transfer or fun vinyl cutout I could use on my Cricut. Nothing really caught my eye, so I decided to make my own. Being a newbie at the time, it was the most challenging thing to do. I wasn't quite sure how to use my machine and I winged it almost all throughout the process. I learned a lot of what not to do and learned time management skills on this thing!
Here she is, all gussied up. I sanded a little here and there to give it a weathered look and added some greenery and some knickknacks I found around the house. She isn't much but she does her job and I love her.
